Ta Biblia - session 1

The first session of the year is 'Ta Biblia'. It is a part of the series.
First impression...getting to know and learn about bible is FUN...can get some chocolates and drawing books from Theresa Su. *hehe*last but not least, the knowledge about bible.

Few things taken note:
What is 'Ta Biblia'? The word comes from Greek. It means books. Bible means books. When taking out your Bible, it does mean you taking out your books.
Catholic bible contains 73 books inside. The picture below shows all the books in the bible from Genesis to Revelation. *this was done during the session* There are Old testaments and New testaments. And in old testaments, it contains also Deuterocanonical books. Those are Tobias, Judith, Baruch, Ecclesiasticus, Wisdom, First and Second Machabees. Deuterocanonical comes from the Greek means "second canon/belonging to the second canon". You know prototype, that the word "protos" means the first. "Deuteros" means the second.
Anybody can list down all of the books in the bible? hehe...see the picture and guess...at least you must know the first one is Genesis and the last one is Revelation. Some where in the middle there are gospels.

New outlook of our Stable

On Sunday, January 10, 2010 we had our first session of the year. About 10 oclock plus, we entered to Stable. We came back to this Stable after awhile we always had our session at the classroom. The first impression when we came to Stable is these pictures below...

How amazing this room! Is it amazing? Thanks to those who planned, cleaned and tidied up the room...

Year 2010 - Connect Session

We are in year 2010 already. We are changing our calendar to the new one, buying new agenda *find nice and cute one*, school starting *exciting*, planning for holiday for this year *awesome*...
It's a new Journey. *happy*

Today that is the day this post is published, it is already the third day of the year 2010. And time flew by so fast...and soon we are sitting in front of our computer and said that "Year 2010 is SO fast, and now we are celebrating Christmas 2010 and waiting for the new year 2011." And we reflected the year has been nothing much happening.

We should say to ourselves, "Enjoy every moment of life, don't wait until year 2012 *the end from Mayan calendar*. why should we worry about 2012? We should worry about tomorrow".
If you have watched 2012 or not, this quote by Lama Rinpoche on the movie is recommended:
"Like this cup, you are full of opinions and speculations. To see the light of wisdom... you first must empty your cup."

Allow yourself to be filled. So, you are invited to be part of this 'Ta Biblia' series!

Hm... Can see your bible around you now? Yes or No or Maybe. It's time to find out what 'that book' is all about, how at the beginning 'it' exist, how many people around the world eager to read it even daily, and there are many more questions you can come up with.

This series will give an insight about bible with interesting, fun and relax context. And we will share on how bible is applicable to our daily lives.

What we gonna do is that we are as a spirit-led community gathering at stable, praise and worship, breaking the words ('Ta Biblia' series) followed by fellowship (nice food and chit chat). What you need to do is simply bring your bible and writing materials and at last empty your cup and come, be filled with overflowing water.

SERVICE

On Sunday, 14th October 2007, Edwyn gave a session on service and it's importance in the life of being a catholic. Here is a brief summary of the session.

Opening the session, Edwyn mentioned that service is something we do daily, 24/7 every day of the week. (Daniel 6:20). He also mentioned that we were created to serve and God chose us even before we were born to be his witnesses in the acts of service that we do. (Jeremiah 1:4-5).

He also drew comparisons of "service" and "being served", with the comparison the "Sea of Galilee" which is teeming with life and the "Dead Sea" which yea doesn't need any introduction. :)

The comparison drawn here is that as we enter into more "service", we become more like the "Sea of Galilee", full of life and vigor and always flowing. However, if we sit back always and have a "serve-US" mentality with no output, then after a while, we become like the "Dead Sea", dead and lifeless.

Many people however ask the question, "how can I serve". The answer is follow Jesus and the example he sets in how we should serve one another. Jesus showed the greatest example of service through the sacrifice that he made for us on the cross. "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. " John 15:13. Jesus died for us so that we may have life. Therefore the greatest motivation we should have in wanting to serve others is Jesus.

Edwyn also mentioned that service is something we should do till it hurts, as being a disciple of Christ hurts. We however shouldn't complain even if it hurts, but we should take our comfort in Jesus, knowing that he never complained once in his great of act of service for all us. Therefore as catholics, we should follow in the example of Jesus (our suffering servant; Isaiah 53) and give till it hurts.

He also shared one real life example of John Paul II's life and how it truly defines what it really means to serve others. He shared about how the Pope never complained one bit throughout the entire course of events during one of the WYDs and how even at the end of an entire day's work of activities, instead of resting, he sacrificed his rest-time to pray for every single person whom he had met throughout the day.

In conclusion, as catholics and especially as youths, we need to be aware of who we're serving, why we're serving and how we're serving. Start today! Pray and seek God's guidance on what plans he has for you in your life of service. The more you serve, the happier and more amazing life will be. Hard to believe? Try it and see for yourself. :)

Hope you had a great week! (:

It's been a long time since we all last met! And boy are we missing you! Feast day has gone by and it was a really successful one! But of course! Everything won't have been possible without GOD! However, YOU made it even more possible! By offering your help to blend the juices, cut the fruits, yelling at the top of your voices, making the burger, stirring the mayo, cooking the patties etc etc etc!!! We would just want to thank you for offering up your services in such a meaningful event.

To show our appreciation, Mel and I have decided to have an Appreciation BBQ (now doesn't this sound interesting?) for all who's helped out in this year's Feast Day one way or another! (:

You don't have to prepare anything! Just come and enjoy yourself! Here's the details!

Feast Day 2007!!!

Hey everyone!!!!!!!

It's the week of our Feast Day!! And it's an official countdown of like just 6 more days only!!!!!!!!

As Feast Day approach, we really would like you to keep us all in prayers! No matter if it's praying for great weather, good sales, good health etc, please keep us all in prayers! It's such an exciting event that we're all going to have so much fun together! To bond, belong, beyond!! Yes! Bonding with YOU, YOU, YOU and YOU!!!! Though each year, we all get tired out from Feast Day, but it's the process of going through it together that means so much! It's having people like you that make the whole event so different! So enjoyable!

No matter if you're coming to help out on feast day, or the eve of feast day, or collection of fruits, buying of stuff, be it cutting fruits, blending fruits, making the burgers, changing the garbage bags, or even cracking the eggs, don't let it stop you from praying!! It's the prayers that keep us united and away from the DEVIL!!!

So don't forget to pray before you sleep or anytime! (: It's just this Sunday!!! *screamss*

Please do keep in mind that on Saturday, we'll be preparing the stalls and setting up the stalls, and hopefully start selling some food! Oh yes! And attending mass too! So do come and find us and lend us a helping hand!!! We'll be there from 2pm onwards in church.

After a long break for the Easter Season, Connect Sessions are back!! And now, we're in the Holy Spirit Series!!

It's going to be really really exciting and really really awesome! Its the Holy Spirit Series!!!!

Feast Day 2007

Hello there!!

How has your week been for you? I do hope that the Easter Spirit in you hasn't died out yet! Time really pass so fast and what do you know? It's once again our St Joseph's Feast Day!!!!! It's such a big event of the year, that i believe you wouldn't want to miss out being part of it!

And this year, Kanektas would be doing 2 food stalls and we would really appreciate it if you're able to come and extend your help to us! Of course there's going to be so much fun and joy in contributing to this event in all sense of it! We're honored to inform you that the 2 food stalls would be Mc Kanekt Burger and Kanekt Refresher Fruit Juice!

We would be really glad if you could play a part in this event with us through various ways. Here's how!

1. You can volunteer to be helping out in the food stalls on the day itself! (RSVP by: 27th April)

2. You can help in contributing love offerings to our weekly collection

3. You can help by contributing any of the following items in the Stock List!

We would be spending a lot of money on buying the various ingredients and things needed for this feast day and you can help us by contributing money or even providing us with things like salt, pans, works, pails etc etc! We're not asking you for big amount of donations such as $50, but a little out of your allowance is all we're asking for. If we could all save a little and donate a few dollars, we could easily reach our aim isn't it? Jesus made such a big sacrifice for us! Donating a few dollars from our allowance, why can't we do it?

The items that you'll be providing (such as woks, pans etc..) we'll definitely return it back to you and we guarantee it'll be squeaking clean!

Just simply call/sms/email either Melissa or myself (Valerie) with regards to what are you able to contribute to us or if you're able to help out on the feast day!

Us: Just before setting off!

Welcome to our first stop! Our Lady Star Of Sea

We arrived at our first stop, Lady Star Of The Sea, where we met Fr Edward Lim who was so kind to give us a brief history of the church and a tour around the church, showing us the different parts of the church. We were all so amazed by the whole church, as it really looked like the structure of a ship! And not forgetting how amazed we were when we saw the library! A quote from Antonia "Oh my gosh. Can i be a parishioner here?" We know she was just kidding. She loves Kanektas so much! Not long later, we left and headed off to our next destination- Immaculate Heart Of Mary.

The next stop- Immaculate Heart Of Mary

Across the expressway and we arrived at Immaculate Heart Of Mary! The weather was just so good! Praise God! We had our group sharing on different words. It was amazing to see how just 4 simple words brought such a great message across. We couldn't resist taking pictures as how lovely the was! Soon after that, our grumbling stomachs made us head for lunch...

And we carried on to... Our Lady Of Lourdes

As we approached Lourdes, the sky became really threatening. But! That did not dampened our spirit! At there, Emilyn did an activity with us, which was really interesting and we all had so much fun! We learn that even at times God tries to convey a message to us, we could simply don't listen or even misinterpreted it. We also had a little tour to the "fountain", where it symbolised the time when Mary appeared to St Bernadette. And finally, we headed to our last destination of our Marian Pilgrimage...

Last Stop - St Mary's of the Angels

It was raining cats and dogs as we reached back to the west. And we almost had to cancel the little tour which was prepared by our special speaker, Keenan! Thank God, when we reached St Mary's, the rained stopped! We met up with Keenan, where he showed us his mini office, aka, the Youth Room and gave us a brief intro to the church. He then showed us around the church and that was when we realised the real meaning to why the church was build in such a way! As mass time approached, so did the rain. We parted with Keenan and we prepared ourselves for mass....

A pilgrimage is like a walk. A journey. Today, we walked through this journey with each other and i hope that you enjoyed this walk with us.

Yay!!!!!! Our Kanektas is almost going to be done! And i hope you guys would come and view this blog often and get the latest updates on our ministry! (:

Here's the upcoming events that you won't want to miss out!

Firstly, it'll be our Kanektas first ever held, Sedar Meal!! And we'll be holding it in the Youth Room!!! Its going to be something really really exciting cause not only we'll be having special speakers to come and hold this great event, we're all going to learn together about this really Special Meal! (: It's going to be all so awesome and you really would not want to miss out on this!

When: This Thursday, 5th April @ 8.15pm -10.30pm
Where: In the youth room, Aka The Stable

The next happening event would be the Easter Potluck held at Antonia's place! We're all going to come together and celebrate Easter together! Antonia has kindly offered her place for us to have this Easter Celebration! After a whole season of Lent, let's all have a good Easter Celebration together!
