Loved the overlapping themes, while still keeping intrigue and love winning as the main. McKenna was truly an amazing heroine, and Nix, well. (You killed my self promise to put books down and have meds taken and attempted sleep by 11! This original new series from Riley Edwards shows great promise. Nixon Swagger has returned to his Maryland hometown to regroup and plan his next move after 12 years in the Navy. Meeting McKenna and falling for her wasn't part of his plan, but sometimes plans need to change. This is my favorite line from the book, "Sometimes you need sacrifice what you want to do so you can do what you need to do for those you love." The characters are well developed and the story is compelling. As with any new series, I had to be patient at the beginning as series developing. Nixon's POV is written in third person and McKenna's POV is in first person. It took me until chapter 3 to really get in the groove of the changing POV, but it works well.
I have always loved Riley Edwards books since the first one in Susan Stoker's Alpha Special Ops series. Nixon's Promise doesn't disappoint in fact this one should have more than 5 Stars because of the strong heroine McKenna she's one sassy lady and a smart cookie too. Throw in a hero, Nixon Swagger (and next door neighbor) who'll do whatever it takes to be the one you can count on and willing to help McKenna with two teens still mourning the loss of their parents.Nixon Swagger is home after 12 years as a Navy SEAL to the farm he grew up on and determined to clean it up after years of decline. But coming home has its downside mainly two corrupt lawmen who rule the town with fear. But Nixon when he meets feisty McKenna at the feed store he knows that he needs to get to know her. He'll then help with her little brother (Love his protective nature) and snarky sister who hates living in a Podunk town. When he's asked to form a team for a friend at DHS it will be his former team mates he'll form Gemini Group to stop a paramilitary group from bombing Philadelphia. However, when McKenna goes missing after the op he'll need his friends to find her in time.Trust me you'll stay up late to finish this book and now my question is how long do I have to wait for Jameson's story?
Let me first say Brilliant writing and Absolutely Awesome story once again by Riley Edwards and just when I think she cant top her last book she completely blows me away again. Nixon is the first book of the Gemini Group and series and its absolutely a book that will keep you hooked from page one until the end and its filled with suspense and chemistry and romance and steamy sex and action packed and let me say former navy seals. I'm not going to give anything away because this book is absolutely a must read and get the full effect and get sucked into the characters emotions. Bravo Riley Edwards on another Amazing Hit!!!#nixonspromise
Laughing the very first page in when Nixon meets McKenna I knew I'd be hooked. The story is phenomenal, touching on real issues, and spinning it into a romance with heat, humor, action and emotion.McKenna is caring for her teenage sister and brother and that brings in a whole new dynamic in dealing with their feelings, plus her own. Nixon steps in and alpha that he is, just takes it all in stride with a bit of toughness, but compassion also. (Sigh)Threats come in all forms and all levels. I loved the way these all were presented, described and "handled". A lot of action for Nixon and his newly formed team. Micky also gets included when they realize how valuable she is, which totally tripped my trigger.Then there's the local "good ol boy" system alive and well, who also got dealt with. I think I honestly held my breath a lot reading this, taking a big, deep breath, happy sigh at the end.I can't wait for the next release in the Gemini Group Series.
